What to see?

From 1 May to 31 August, visitors can enjoy a cruise aboard the passenger boat “Visvaldis” on the Daugava River. The boat departs from the grounds of the Wellness Complex “Avotiņš”. (https://www.visitlivani.lv/en/where-to-stay/168-labsajutas-komplekss-avotins-/)

The cruise offers a wonderful opportunity to discover the region’s cultural and historical heritage using an audio guide, while taking in the beautiful scenery and enjoying the peaceful surroundings of the Daugava River.

During the trip, visitors can admire one of the most scenic and historically significant stretches of the Daugava, offering wide panoramic views from the river. Among the highlights are Jersika Hillfort (https://www.visitlivani.lv/en/what-to-see/cultural-history/jersika-hillfort/), one of the most significant hillforts in Latvia, and Dignāja Hillfort on the opposite bank, both associated with ancient fortified settlements and castles.

The route also takes visitors around Ploņu Island, an inhabited island rich in local legends and stories. Along the way, the audio guide provides fascinating insights into the area, historical events and other cultural and historical sites along the picturesque banks of the Daugava.
