Cycling Route “From Rails to Wheels”
A new, exciting and accessible 20-kilometre cycling route, “From Rails to Wheels,” has been created in Livani Municipality. It combines active recreation, cultural heritage, local flavours and unique experiences into one memorable day.
The route has been designed so that travellers can conveniently arrive in Livani by train and continue their day on two wheels, exploring significant tourist attractions and discovering local stories by bicycle. It is suitable for participants of different ages and fitness levels – from children aged 7 to seniors.
During the cycling tour, participants will:
· arrive in Livani by train at 12:10 and start the route at the railway station;
· take the crossing raft on the Livani–Dignaja route, symbolically stepping into the historical region of Sēlija (Selonia);
· visit the Livani Glass and Crafts Center, learn about the town’s glassmaking traditions and watch the glassblowing process;
· taste products made by local home producers and entrepreneurs from Livani Municipality;
· take part in the creative glass-fusing workshop “Stikls no Līvāniem” (Glass from Livani);
· relax by Livani Lake;
· cycle along the Route of Thematic Benches, discovering the town from an unusual perspective;
· return to the railway station by 19:11.
A lunch break at one of the cafes in Livani Municipality is included in the route. Lunch is not included in the participation fee and must be paid for individually by participants.
At the end of the day, participants return to Livani railway station, from where they can conveniently travel back to Riga by evening train.
